John Harleston Read

1788-1859

John Harleston Read, born in Charleston in 1788, first married Miss Withers of Georgetown. One son, James Read, served in the U.S. Navy until the War Between the States. The other son was Harleston Read. Mr Read's second wife was Emily Ann Huger of Georgetown. They had two sons, Benjamin Huger Read and William Read. He died May 23, 1859
